GLP-1 Changed My Relationship With Food

I didn’t start GLP-1 for an “easy out.” It wasn’t some dramatic, desperate decision. It was more like a little curiosity mixed with a lot of exhaustion. Between work, kids, and everything in between, I didn’t have the mental capacity to keep counting calories and obsessing over the number on my scale.

I just wanted something that made food feel less loud… if that makes any sense.

Meet Cute

It started the way most things do nowadays: scrolling.

At first it felt like another trending topic that would come and go, but the more stories I heard about food noise getting quieter and no longer controlling people’s minds, the more it felt like they were speaking directly to me.

After doing some digging I decided to give it a go.

Honeymoon Phase

The number on the scale was dropping, my confidence was rising, and slowly, but then all at once I started noticing:

  • My face looked slimmer in photos
  • Those “goal jeans” finally fit
  • “Starting tomorrow” speeches stopped
  • I felt physically AND mentally lighter

Reality Check

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but just because you don’t feel hungry, doesn’t mean your body doesn’t need food.

I wanted the food noise to quiet down, not disappear. Then I started noticing:

  • My hair clogging the shower drain
  • TMI, but constipation (sorry!)
  • Rollercoaster mood swings

It wasn’t dramatic overnight. It was subtle. But it was enough to make me realize that quiet cravings don’t replace proper nutrition.

Was it Worth it?

At this moment, it wasn’t.

I can admit I got carried away with how I looked and not how I felt. Suddenly, I wasn’t looking as vibrant, and I definitely wasn’t feeling good.

And that’s when it hit me: I had traded one kind of obsessing for another. Before GLP-1, I was second-guessing every bite. Now, I was second-guessing whether I was eating enough at all.

Fixing the Foundation

Because my appetite was lower, I learned pretty quickly that smaller portions are the way to go.

But after eating the same three “easy” meals on rotation, food stopped being enjoyable and became purely functional.

Suddenly, I was back to square one. Not obsessing about overeating. Not obsessing about undereating. But now obsessing over what to eat.

A Match Made For Me

Finally, I was matched with nutrition that delivers. No, really. The meals showed up at my doorstep on my schedule.

The portions felt aligned with my appetite and they actually tasted good. Not “diet food” good, but genuinely satisfying.

I’m talking grilled salmon with creamy pesto, cheesy black bean sliders with buffalo cauliflower, Thai-style coconut chicken. And without even thinking about it, with every meal I was easily averaging:

  • 25-30g of protein
  • 5g of fiber
  • 25g of net carbs
  • 10g of total fat

For the first time in this journey I wasn’t guessing or obsessing. I was supported.

Future Plans

GLP-1 helped quiet the noise. Nutrition helped rebuild the foundation. And having guidance on how to balance both has given me the freedom I was looking for.
